Epic History (also called Epic Mickey Online and Epic Disney) is a cancelled free-to-play MMO game for iOS and PC based off the Epic Mickey series. The game was in development between 2010 and 2012 by Go For Launch Productions, Studio Ex, Gaudzilla Studio, and SpaceFace.[2][3]

According to a developer who worked on the game, it was meant to bridge the events of Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two to Epic Mickey 3.[4]

Description[]

According to various concept art and storyboards, the game's plot would have revolved around the Blot, who has been resurrected through unknown means and plans to corrupt the Toon World and its inhabitants via a storybook, imprisoning the heroes while the villains get infected by the Blot via an evil spell. This would've led Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to recruit Toons (unknown whether or not they were from Wasteland or the Toon World itself) to prevent the Blot from infecting multiple Disney worlds.

The player would've been able to create his own Toon and choose between multiple classes, such as the Ranger (based off Horace Horsecollar), who would've possessed a bow; the Petes (based off various versions of Pete), which would've acted as a heavy class; and the Lucky Rabbit (based off Oswald and Fanny Cottontail), who would've been armed with a magic Paintbrush. Some concept art also showcases a class portrayed by a duck, although it's unknown what their abilities would have been.

Mean Street would've acted as the game's hub, along with a brand new building called "InkWorx." The players would've been able to meet Oswald at InkWorx, where he would brief them before sending them to a location corrupted by the Blot. One of the main locations affected by the Blot was the world of Peter Pan. During a duel between Peter Pan and Captain Hook, the Blot would've taken both of them by surprise and corrupted (or "Blotted") them with its ink, turning them into its own minions.

One example of a level was the Jolly Roger, which could be seen in a presentation video where a trio of Toons/player characters are traveling through the ship while fighting Spatters and Blotworx and solving puzzles. After reaching the quarterdeck, the trio would've fought the blotted Captain Hook before freeing him from the Blot's influence.

Concept art of Oswald, meant for Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys

  • Epic History's pitch was originally praised highly by Disney Executives back in 2012, but at some point in the game's development it was cancelled due to sudden changes in "business decisions."
  • The game was in development simultaneously with another cancelled MMO game called Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys, which was also worked on by Go For Launch Productions and Studio Ex.
    • An alternate version of the "Seven Dwarf's mine" concept art used for Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys can also be seen in a video by Go For Launch Productions.[5]
    • Concept art for a "Kingdom Hearts" Oswald also exists. Which further suggested the close development timeline for both games in the beginning.
    • In addition, both Epic History and Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys shared several similar plot points.
  • The game’s story is very similar to one of the early plots for the first Epic Mickey back in 2009 when Oswald was still the antagonist, in which The Blot was planning to come to the Cartoon World and corrupt it with its ink.
  • The final design for the storybook that was presented shares a resemblance to the Mad Doctor's Diary from Epic Mickey 2.
