Join Mickey Mouse on a colorful adventure as he traverses Wasteland, a world inspired by Disney classic stories. Play the 2010 classic along with a variety of upgrades in this enhanced remake of the action-adventure 3D platformer originally released on the Wii console. Along with updated graphics and other improvements, Mickey Mouse's abilities have been improved with a whole new set of skills and more. For fans of the original and new fans alike get ready for an adventure of truly "epic" proportions when Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed launches on Nintendo Switch this year.[2]
THQ Nordic[]
THQ Nordic today announced that Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, a faithful remake of the beloved classic adventure, is being developed by Purple Lamp in collaboration with Disney Games. The development team was assisted in the remaster by Warren Spector, director of the original Disney Epic Mickey. In this classic action-adventure game, players will send Mickey Mouse, armed with a magical paintbrush, on an epic creative journey to brave the dangerous world of Wasteland. Through exciting levels inspired by classic Disney stories, players will paint their path and face a variety of challenges along the way. Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is scheduled for release across PS4™, PS5™, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo® Switch and PC in 2024.
"I've received more heartfelt fan mail from players of all ages about Disney Epic Mickey than any other project I've worked on – a true indicator of the timelessness of this game," said Warren Spector, director of the original Disney Epic Mickey. "That my team and I contributed to that legacy is truly an honor and I'm delighted that old fans and new will get to enjoy the adventures of Mickey and Oswald in Wasteland once again."
"Having been part of this from the earliest beginnings of the creative idea, all those years ago, I can't wait to see new players discover this enduring classic on modern consoles," said Luigi Priore, V.P. of Disney, Pixar, and 20th Century Games. "We are excited that fans of the original will also get to relive their own experiences wielding the paintbrush and thinner once again."[3]
Changes[]
The following is a list of all known changes in Epic Mickey: Rebrushed compared to its original counterpart:
- The game has been completely overhauled visually along with running on Unreal Engine 4, compared to the original game which ran on the Gamebryo engine.
- The CGI cutscenes have also been redone by Plastic Wax, who previously worked on Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.
- The 2D animated cutscenes are now in higher quality, and all references to the Wii Remote were removed. The "Guardian Training" cutscene was also separated in two parts.
- The camera has been reworked with the cursor now fixed at the center of the screen.
- Gyro aiming has also been added for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC versions of the game.
- One hundred four Extra Contents containing concept art from the remake were added to the game alongside the fifty Extra Contents present in the original game.
- The gallery also now credits every artist behind each concept art.
- Seven additional Pins have been added, bringing the total from 105 to 112. These consist of 3 new Silver Pins and 4 new Special Pins.
- The sound effects for some items were changed such as the pick-up sound for the Paint and Thinner ammunition refill.
- E-Tickets have undergone several changes:
- White E-Tickets have been replaced by blue E-Tickets which now provide 25.
- Green E-Tickets now provide 10 instead of the original 30.
- Golden E-Tickets no longer have Oswald's head on them, instead being replaced by Mickey's head like the other E-Ticket types.
- E-Tickets can now be invisible and hidden, requiring Mickey to walk over them to be revealed and able to be picked up.
- Photo Mode has been added, along with filters that can be bought at the Ice Cream Parlor.
- All interiors are now 3D modeled.
- Same thing for the collectables.
- Gremlin Gus's tutorials interrupt Mickey less and can now be replayed by talking to him.
- If Mickey is about to leave an area he might not come back to. Gus will warn him if there's any unfinished quests.
- Projector Screens can now be skipped when played once, by talking to Gus and paying 10 E-Tickets. This is similar to a feature found in the Japanese port of the original game.
- Each Projector Screen has also received a major overhaul, often with new secrets requiring Mickey's new moveset to find. To accomodate this, the amount of Film Reels to collect has been significantly increased, with most now having two film reels to find.
- The Sketch Pad recieves an overhaul:
- If Mickey runs out of a particular Sketch, it will remain visible in the Sketch Pad with a red squiggle rather than disappearing entirely from the Sketch Pad until he has at least one again.
- It displays the maximum limit on how much of a specfic Sketch Mickey can carry in his inventory.
- In the original game, the Sketches in the Sketch Pad are ordered and cycled based on the instruction manual: TV Sketch → Anvil Sketch → Watch Sketch → TV Sketch. In Rebrushed, they are instead ordered based on the order they are obtained in the game: TV Sketch → Watch Sketch → Anvil Sketch → TV Sketch.
- The TV Sketch no longer displays Steamboat Willie.
- The wave effect when Mickey enters a Projector is missing in the remake.
- This was fixed in the October patch.
- Prior to the patch, Notilus was the only level where the effect was present.
- Any Pins, Extra Content and Film Reels already collected can be collected again; Mickey will receive E-Tickets for doing so, the values depending on what he picks up.
- Film Reels will give 5.
- Extra Content and Bronze Pins will provide 10.
- Silver Pins will provide 25.
- Gold Pins will provide 100.
- The parts of Mickey's animatronic friends that previously appeared in blue chests now appear out in the open in the same locations where the chests used to be.
- Similar to Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, the E-Ticket wallet now has unlimited capacity from the start, removing both the initial 1,000 E-Ticket cap and the need to acquire wallet upgrades.
- Mickey's current E-Ticket amount at the end of a game will carry over into a New Game+ file.
- NPCs now greet Mickey when he approaches them.
- All male NPC Goats have been replaced by NPC Cows. This is likely due to Purple Lamp using the Epic Mickey Wiki as reference, which mistakenly referred to Goats as Cows.
- Running out of health and respawning works differently in Rebrushed: if Mickey's health reaches zero, the screen will quickly transition to his last checkpoint before respawning him instead of the screen fading black and going through a loading screen. Mickey will, however, drop 7 E-Tickets upon death in Rebrushed, which does not occur in the original game.
- Bunny Children now have a death animation when thrown into Thinner.
- A pink variant of the Bunny Children was added.
- Hazards that would crush Mickey, which are otherwise fatal in the original game, instead deal standard damage in Rebrushed while respawning Mickey a short distance away afterwards.
- Sketches have their prices significantly reduced, with their general price being halved to costing only 50 E-Tickets instead of 100. All sketch types can be bought from any shops save for the Ice Cream Parlor. Furthermore, TV Sketches sold in the Emporium, Watch Sketches in the Tiki Hut, and Anvil Sketches in the Bog Easy Shop have a discounted price of 25 E-Tickets.
- New Game+ resets all cutscenes. This means it's impossible to rewatch the ending cutscene under normal circumstances.
- When a spin attack is used on a toon object, the object turns a less vibrant color, signifying that it can no longer be used,
Mickey Mouse[]

The Spin Move imbued with Thinner.
- Mickey now possesses three new abilities: Dash, ground pound and sprinting.
- Mickey can now combine the Spin Move with Paint or Thinner.
- This is similar to a scrapped mechanic found in Epic Mickey 2 prototypes.
- Mickey's spin now gives him a small boost of height when used mid-air, compared to the original and Epic Mickey 2 where it would only stall your fall and give you more distance mid-air.
- The tip of the Paintbrush has Paint and Thinner on it, similarly to how it looked in prerelease screenshots of Epic Mickey.
- The Paintbrush is now placed on Mickey's back when he's travelling through Projector Screens.
- Mickey received two new idle animations, which consist of Mickey shaking his head and eyes.
- Mickey also shakes his tail after he wins a race against Gilda. This animation was previously unused in the original game.
- The HUD representing Mickey's status has been overhauled.
- Mickey's health is now represented by hearts instead of pips.
- The expressions on his face no longer appear on a notepad.
- Mickey has an updated Guardian meter. The new meter now only has two sides (Thinner and Paint) instead of having three bars. Mickey's Guardians are also based on which bar he most recently filled.
- Mickey can summon a grey guardian to show him his destination, by pressing the D-pad upright.
- All of Mickey's costumes from Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two (with the exception of Sorcerer's Apprentice) were brought back in this remake. The Firefighter and Construction Worker costumes can be obtained after collecting a certain amount of Film Reels. Football, Steamboat Willie and Brave Little Tailor can only be accessed through the Costume Pack DLC.
Blotlings[]
- Blotlings will now teleport back to their original spawn location if they get too far away.
- Red-eyed Blotlings are now slightly bigger than their green-eyed counterpart.
- Green-eyed Spatters now have a green stripe on the left side of their back and small faint green spots on their body. Red-eyed Spatters have the same markings but are colored red.
- Painted Blotlings now attack other enemies with Paint. Sweepers in particular will throw Paint instead of Thinner.
- Painted Blotlings no longer become instantly hostile after being hit with Thinner and must now lose all of their Paint to become hostile again.
- This can actually only be done by Mickey, Sweepers, or a Slobber’s spit as most hostile Blotlings do not attack with thinner drops. This is likely an error.
- Green-eyed Blotlings are still encountered late game (although they are very rare) unlike the original game where only red-eyed Blotlings are encountered after Mickey heads to Lonesome Manor.
- Slobbers no longer choke when sprayed with too much Paint/Thinner. This is likely an error.
- When Slobbers roar, there is now Thinner coming out of their mouth.
- Slobbers now rarely chase Mickey to attack at close range. Instead they will mostly stay stationary and try sucking him in to get him close. This is likely an error, as they will chase painted Blotlings to attack in addition to sucking them in.
- A Slobber's claws now only deal one health pip of damage rather than two.
- Slobbers no longer have to have their mouth open to be painted/thinned. This is likely an error as Gus states they are only vulnerable when their mouth is open.
- Bloticles no longer explode and instead now slither away.
- When a pustule is sprayed with paint, it will shrink away rather than explode like the original. Being sprayed with thinner still causes the pustule to explode.
- From the Battle in Bog Easy through Dark Beauty Castle, red-eyed and green-eyed Spatters seem to have been fused together, as the Spatters are seen having red eyes but green mouths. This is likely an error as there are red-eyed Spatters in the game with both red eyes and red mouths.
- It is possible this error is because they are wearing costumes and only green-eyed Spatters are usually the ones wearing costumes as red-eyed Spatters were not seen wearing the Manor costume in Lonesome Manor but green-eyed Spatters were. However, red-eyed Spatters with both red eyes and red mouths are seen wearing the Pirate costume.
- Blot Spirits now deal one health pip of damage instead of two.
Beetleworx[]

Concept art for the redesigned Tankers
- The design of the Toon armors of every Beetleworx was redone completely.
- Similarly to Blotlings, Beetleworx can also teleport back to their spawn location.
- The weak spot on the Beetleworx now pops out of them when it is ready to be hit by a spin attack.
The Mad Doctor's Lab[]
- When fighting the Mechanical Arm, the Paintbrush's tip lacks Paint and Thinner, and it only gains it right after the "Brush Powerup" cutscene.
- The painted staircase leading to the middle of the room is thinned out in the first visit and completely missing in the second visit.
- In the Castle Entrance, the staircase on the right, leading to the second balcony, now has a paintable Toon floor.
- The way Mickey drains the thinner on the revisit is different now. Rather than painting five pipes, Mickey now has to spin five gears.
- The Slobber guarding the projector screen exits the door as a green-eyed Slobber but in gameplay, it's a red-eyed Slobber. This is similar to the one which appears in the Lonesome Manor Library.
- The Slobber no longer has support from two Sweepers.
Gremlin Village[]
- A small in-game cutscene plays right after Mickey enters the Ticket Booth area. It shows a Guardian approach him before transitioning to the "Guardian Training" cutscene.
- In the Ticket Booth area, the golden E-Ticket on top of the Spinning Cup Ride was replaced by a Treasure Chest with a Bronze Pin in it.
- Dolls resembling Aladdin as Prince Ali now appear in certain places, most likely in reference to the incorporation of Disney characters in the It's a Small World ride itself.
- The Spatters in the Jungle Boat Ride no longer wear a costume.
- The costume the Spatters wear in the Asia Boat Ride has undergone a redesign.
- The Gremlin Houses concept art was moved from the crushers area to the purple house near the big wheel at the entrance.
- The Windmill in World of Gremlins now has an entrance with a small elevator. This replaces the platforms on the sails of the Windmill from the original game.
- In European Boat Ride, it is now easier to access the shortcut area through the normal path.
- A platform was also added near the entrance of the shortcut, thus allowing Mickey to easily switch to the normal path.
- The Clock Tower fight went through a few changes, both aesthetic and gameplay-wise:
- Mickey now enters the arena via a corridor; he needs to paint a couple of gears in to open the door at the end into the arena.
- In that same corridor and during the fight, there are now ambient background clock sounds. The audio file was in the original game but was never used.
- There is now visible music near the Clock Tower's face, playing into the idea that he went mad from hearing "It's a Small World" non-stop, in turn explaining the "Stop the Music" pin.
- Visible steam now spurts out from underneath the Clock Tower's nose.
- The Clock Tower's arms are now half-thinned out. This slightly changes the "Paint" way to defeat the boss, as Mickey now needs to fully repaint his arms in order to freeze them.
- The Clock Tower has some new attacks. Sometimes, he'll bash one arm down multiple times, and instead of bashing both arms down at the same time where Mickey is standing at the time, he'll now bash them at each end of the arena to summon rolling gears which Mickey has to jump over to avoid.
- When redeemed with paint, the Clock Tower no longer emits any voice sounds when he talks. This is most likely a bug.
- The Clock Tower's face went through some aesthetic changes as well: the original distorted teeth were replaced by cleaner ones with gums. The original dot under his smile is also missing despite being present in concept art for the remake.
Mean Street[]

The interior of the Cinema in Rebrushed
- The Mean Street cutscene is based off the Japanese version, where instead of featuring a tidal wave going over Mean Street, it's instead replaced by a Thinner gas spreading, with Dark Beauty Castle being disfigured by it. The part in which a Spatter shoves someone into a manhole is also not present for this reason.
- Non-speaking Toons were added to Mean Street.
- The Cinema now possesses an interior, which Mickey can enter to replay any Projector Screen levels. This allows the player the opportunity to collect any Film Reels or Extra Contents that hadn't been collected the first time.
- This also now makes it possible to play through Projector Screens that couldn't be done in a single playthrough originally.
- Upon returning from Tomorrow City, the projector screen still displays Plutopia rather than becoming inactive. However, you cannot re-enter it and it reverts to its inactive look after traveling through another projector.
- Porter no longer appears in Mean Street after defeating Animatronic Captain Hook. Likely due to male Goats being accidentally removed from the game.
- In the Battle of Mean Street quest, rather than having only one Bloticle, there are now three. There are also more Blotlings to fight as well.
OsTown[]
- The Bunny Children in Ortensia's House have been removed. It's unknown if this was intentional.
- In the Battle of OsTown, there are now four Bloticles with the first one blocking the bridge.
- There's now evidence of someone living under Clarabelle's garden as a bed can be found there now. This is most likely Prescott given things like gears are found there now.
- If rescued in Pirate Voyage, Rigger Greene can be found sitting on a log next to Moody's House.
- Once you reach the Battle of Ostown, you can see drippings of the Blot floating in the air.
- This can be seen in the other hub worlds too.
Mickeyjunk Mountain[]
- Decker's crane no longer resembles the crane from "Building A Building".
- In the original game, if Mickey stands on certain giant Mickey dolls, a decaying voice box emitting from the doll can be heard. This is missing in the remake.
- The jigsaw puzzles covering Thinner pools in the Mt. Osmore Slopes now depict posters different from the original, with one now depicting the 2011 Fantasia DVD/Blu-ray cover.
- The music playing in the airlock section of The Piles was missing. This was fixed in the November patch.
- The code 0-3-3, which was previously unused in the original game, can now be used to lower the platform Gremlin Ronald is on.
- Oswald's theme no longer plays in Mt. Osmore Caverns. This is likely an error.
- This was fixed in the October patch.
- The Shadow Blot boss fight has undergone some changes:
- The Shadow Blot now has slightly less health and can easily be defeated with just three guardians.
- The Shadow Blot now spawns several Blotlings instead of just one.
- The Shadow Blot no longer spawns just Spatters. Instead, it will spawn Spatters, Seers and Sweepers to fight.
- Instead of firing a giant thinner drop at Mickey in the third phase of the fight, it now fires a giant thinner beam.
Tomorrow City[]
- The Notilus recieved a slight redesign, with two structures resembling Oswald's ears appearing behind the bridge, further differentiating it from the Nautilus.
- When Gus discusses the Slobber's variety of attacks, the Slobber will showcase each one as Gus says it (e.g. swiping its claws when Gus says it will use them should Mickey get too close).
- The Hoppers and Tankers found in Tomorrow City have had their toon armor redesigned. The Bashers also no longer resemble Maximillian.
- Petetronic's disc has been redesigned to resemble the Identity Disc's Tron: Legacy incarnation. It still appears as it originally did in the Broken Rocket cutscene though.
- Petetronic's boss fight has undergone several changes
- Petetronic's thinner attack was changed to now stick on the non-toon platforms for a period of time preventing Mickey from going on them without taking damage.
- Petetronic's disc now deals damage
- The thinnable platforms no longer make noise when they are thinned.
Ventureland[]
- A silver Pin can be obtained inside the Hut Shop.
Pirates of the Wasteland[]
- In Tortooga, the wall panel gear has been removed, therefore only requiring the column gears to be spun to retrieve Beluga Billy's belongings.
- The Thinner Ocean in Tortooga now rises significantly less.
- The pirate Bashers received a slight redesign. They still appear as they originally did in the Ventureland-related cutscenes.
- Entering Hangman's Tree is no longer a one-way trip.
- In Pirate Voyage, there are now fires Mickey is able to extinguish with water.
- The Spatters in Pirate Voyage are now green-eyed.
- The way to free Gremlin Erik has been changed. There are now three switches near his cage that need to be thrown.
- Skull Island is now set during a thunderstorm, likely to better fit the tone of the area.
- Skull Island now has more Bashers that appear. Strangely they don't go away even after the machine is repaired.
- The gates guarding Smee's Boat anchors are now locked from the start.
Bog Easy[]
- For unknown reasons, the Bog Easy track was missing in the game, and the Lonesome Manor track plays in the area instead. This is likely an error.
- This was fixed in the October patch.
- The Radio inside Louis' shack no longer emits static sounds or plays the Jungle Rhythm track.
- During the Battle in Bog Easy, a Spinner now appears as an enemy.
- If Mickey restores the bell before going to fight the Shadow Blot, he can ring the bell during the Battle in Bog Easy which will destroy the nearby Spinner and Bloticle.
Lonesome Manor[]
- The Lonesome Manor Bashers have had a redesign.
- The painting of Chernabog in the Foyer is more detailed.
- The Lonesome Manor Spinners have a new design, but for some reason, the Tomorrow City Spinners appear in the Ballroom instead.
- This was fixed in the October patch.
- When the Slobber encountered in the Library appears, it comes down as a green-eyed Slobber as opposed to a red-eyed one. However, (if the player is forced to fight it) in gameplay, it is a red-eyed Slobber.
- The way Madame Leona disposes of the Slobber has also been changed. As opposed to it just melting away, Madame Leona now summons three Turps which are used to melt the Slobber away.
- The Bashers and Spinners in the attic are no longer destroyed when their replicators are destroyed.
- The red-eyed Spatters do not wear the Manor costume. Curiously, the green-eyed Spatters do wear the Manor costume. This is likely an error, as red-eyed Spatters are seen wearing them in the Battle in Bog Easy.
Dark Beauty Castle[]

The new area, added at the beginning of the Throne Room
- Bloticles now appear on Mickey's revisit to the Castle, notably in the Throne Room.
- The Throne Room now contains a brief area at the beginning of the level that explains how the gargoyles work.
- The gargoyles in the Throne Room now redirect the light with mirrors.
- The location of the three switches holding the chandelier in the Throne Room has been changed.
- There's a secret room, above the Projector Screen in Loss Tower. After completing the first arena in the tower, Mickey needs to get on the first painted platform where he will see a small opening leading into the secret room. From there, he need to do a precise jump in order to access the room.
- Utilidor VII's level design has been slightly revamped.
- The Projector Screen at the top of Loss Tower is already inactive rather than displaying Fantasia Scene V.
Inside the Blot[]
- The entire area has been remade, now featuring objects from previous areas.
- These areas include Gremlin Village, Bog Easy, Mean Street, and Ventureland.
- When heading to the dead end chambers with the first three Bloticles, Mickey will now encounter Blot Spirits along the way rather than encountering them just in each of the dead end chambers.
- Several allied Blotlings now spawn in during each wave to assist you.
- The Petes of Wasteland are now included among the Blot Spirits, regardless of whether you redeemed them or not.
- Interestingly, this now includes Petetronic and Pete Pan.
Misc.[]
- The cartoon clips in the original credits are AI upscaled for unknown reasons.
