Junction Point Studios was the video game company based in Austin, Texas, that produced Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. It was founded by Warren Spector and Art Min in 2005. Originally, the company was working on a project revealed later to be a game in the Half-Life series.[1]
In July 2007, Junction Point was acquired by Disney Interactive to make a Mickey Mouse game featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
The studio was shut down shortly after Epic Mickey 2's release, likely due not meeting sales expectations and poor critical reception.
Trivia[]
- In an interview with Gamasutra, Warren Spector claimed that the studio's name was inspired by a "very different approach to online games called Junction Point." Though the game concept was never realized, Spector found it more fitting for a studio name and recycled it when founding the studio.[2]
- Before its closure, sources reveal that a game codenamed Project Goliath was to be pitched to Junction Point Studios. The idea was reportedly scrapped after one of the concept artists was caught plagiarizing.[3]
