Fort Wasteland is a location first introduced in Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. It was first shown off at PAX Seattle 2012. Fort Wasteland is highly forested area of Wasteland, located on the coast of the Thinner Ocean.

It is highly based off the former Fort Wilderness attraction at Disneyland Resort's Pirate's Lair On Tom Sawyer Island in Frontierland. It also takes several elements from the Critter Country area (previously unadapted in the Epic Mickey games) in the Disneyland Resort, namely the sleeping bear and Cascade Peak, a waterfall near the Fort.

History[]

Fort Wasteland is a historic site, long before the Thinner Disaster someone or something built the fort, its unknown of Fort Wasteland's status during the events of the first game but was implied to have been submerged under the Thinner Ocean, however Fort Wasteland was confirmed to have survived the Thinner Disaster and has since been taken over by Blotlings. It is implied the fort was used for combat as the Dumbo cannons fire thinner.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two[]

Botanist Darvin and Constance find the fort and want to explore it, however the Blotlings make it dangerous for them, Ghost Ian arrives trying to defend the Blotlings from the botanists and asks that they leave. Mickey and Oswald have the choice of helping the Toons or ghost Ian.

Area Layout[]

The Boardwalk[]

The projector is on a boardwalk/dock on the Thinner Ocean. In the thinner is multiple pieces like a wash grate, a saw, a cup, a boot and a boat. On the east side is a blue bear on a hammock next to the Cuckoo Clock. The wall of the fort has Dumbo thinner cannons which will open and close and act as platforms. The drawbridge is shut and won't lower. On the west is the entrance to the forest with a large tree as the door. An axe acts as a platform up to the forest area.

The Forest[]

In the first area is a massive tree with a face, an animatronic butterfly on its nose. There are giant Film Reels which act as stairs, and bird nests both Toon and Inert everywhere around the forest. Beyond this tree, there is a larger forest area with many trees, which can be thinned to make a path. There is also a Guardian Pool winding amongst them. Cascade Peak at the back of the area flows into this river. Babe The Blue Ox peeks its head through the trees, and a break in the higher part of a wall leads into the Fort itself.

The Cuckoo Clock[]

Inside the Clock, there are many broken pocket watches, some of their pieces scattered. Two Ink wells sit on both ends. Halfway through the corridor of the clock is a thinner pool and a boat held up by toon supports.

The Fort[]

The Fort itself is an open space. Large toon corks force out the cannons to fire. The fort is put together by planks, wooden blocks, random Disney merchandise, piles of hay and crayons. The area has multiple Spatter Tube scattered around. This is also where the exit projector and D.E.C. are, the projector is behind a wooden door, the D.E.C. is behind a rock pile. On the east side there are clocks and a hidden hut.

Gameplay[]

Fort Wasteland has two paths towards the fort's interior, Mickey and Oswald can either go around the fort through the forest or they can go through the cuckoo clock. The fort has bird nests, the inert ones will sink to the weight of Mickey and Oswald while the painted ones are solid. The Dumbo cannons on the wall shoot thinner (which can hurt the player), they also use bottle cap covers which can be used as platforms. On the back side of the wall inside the fort the corks can be painted in to force the Dumbo cannons to stay open.

The Forest[]

The forest is to the east, the gate and the tree can be opened by pulling open the pocket watch and shocking the switch. The trees in the forest can be thinned to open a path over the wall into the fort. Mickey and Oswald can also save the gremlin by climbing up to him using the nests and free him to open a different path over the wall.

The Cuckoo Clock[]

There are 2 clock hands needed to open the Cuckoo Clock, one is on the blue bear sleeping in the hammock, the other is on the west side on top of the nests. Pull the pocket watches to open the doors.

The Fort[]

Inside the fort Mickey has to pull the pulley to allow Oswald to shock both electrodes on the machine to open the exit. This will cause a boss fight to start with 5 blotlings and Deloris the Slobber to arrive once the blotlings are defeated. Painting all enemies will open the projector and net the player a flower costume. Thinning any enemy will cause the fight to go on longer and open the D.E.C. exit, it will net the player a damaged flower costume.

Pins[]

  • Bronze: Behind the pier, on a raft floating in the Thinner Ocean.
  • Silver: Go to the back of the fort and break a barrel that is jamming one of the elephants, then plug up the elephant tube by painting in the cork. Go back to the front, on one of the bottle caps that is now up there should be a chest with the pin that is thinned out. Use Oswald to fly over to it.
  • Special: (Cascade Peak) Under the waterfall in the forest, cannot get if the guardian pool is in thinner state.
  • Special (Given by Rigger Greene): (The Adventurous Life) Depending on the outcome of Thanks for the Memories different pins can be redeemed from Rigger Greene. If Mickey does Rigger's side of the quest Rigger Greene and Moody will appear in front of the gate into the forest.
  • Special: (Chop Chop) After the Blotlings leave you can come back to find a small cave near the place you first entered the Fort. (You must finish the area, leave and come back.)

Cloth[]

  • In the forest on the top platform of the big tree, accessed by using the nests.

Trivia[]

  • The raft behind the Projector Screen leading to this area may be how Botanist Darvin and Constance got here since the way through Blot Alley was blocked.
  • In the graphic novelization of Epic Mickey 2: The Power Of Two, its setting seems to be taking place at night despite the game showing it's location taking place during the day.
    • Also in the graphic novel, Fort Wasteland has more of a resemblance to Fort Wilderness than its in-game counterpart.
  • If the player hasn't gotten the clock hands they can still open the doors of the cuckoo clock from inside the fort, however if they open the gate to the forest the cuckoo clock will automatically close and lock again.
  • If the player does the thinner path during the boss fight the projector will stay blocked, there is no way to bypass it. However, the player can open the D.E.C. during the paint path by entering the D.E.C. from the Floatyard.
  • The Mad Doctor's Lab in Disney Gulch beyond the thinner ocean is visible from the pier.
