The Usher of the Mean Street Cinema is a Goat (or a Cow) who appears in Epic Mickey, it's remake, and Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.
Role in the series[]
In Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey: Rebrushed[]
In Epic Mickey, he can be first interacted with after Mickey arrives in Mean Street, where he gives Mickey a quest to find various film reels found in the projector screens. There are 36 reels in the original game and 72 in the remake. He also will give Mickey a cutlass that Hook gave to the Cinema in the Museum Power Spark quest.
He gives rewards to Mickey as he turns in Film Reels to the Cinema, although can only give the rewards once per game file. These rewards include a Power Spark (which can only be obtained once per file), Health Upgrade (similar to the power spark, can be gotten once.), a bronze pin, silver pin, gold pin, the Oh What a Knight and The Mad Doctor cartoons, and, after all 36 reels have been turned in, the "Cartoon Buff" pin. It is important to note that not all of the film reels can be collected or turned in a single playthrough, mainly the ones found in Dark Beauty Castle and the other projector in the World of Gremlins that wasn't chosen eariler. It requires 2 full playthroughs and at least finishing the Gremlin Village in the third playthrough to collect and turn in all the reels.
In Rebrushed, some rewards were changed and added, alongside the doubled reel count. Such as two costumes being added, the removal of the wallet upgrades, and being able to obtain the health upgrade in subsequent playthroughs. He also is now a Cow, just like all other male Goat characters in the original game.
After all of the reels have been turned in, he claims that decades working at the Cinema have made his eyes really sensitive to bright light.
In Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two[]
The Usher makes a return in Epic Mickey 2, but he is now a Cow instead of a Goat, which is most likely an oversight by the developers. He stays inside the cinema, which can now be entered inside. He allows Mickey and Oswald to fast-travel to places via Projector Screens.
Once the fuse box of the Mean Street Cinema is fixed, the Usher gives Mickey and Oswald some scrap metal. From Episode 2: A Small Mystery, Mickey and Oswald can use the Cinema Projector to travel directly to the destination of previously travelled Projectors. If the Film Reel of a Projector Screen has not been collected, Mickey must pay a rent of 50 E-Tickets each time the Projector is used. Otherwise, it is free of cost. The Cinema Projector skips the film and takes Mickey and Oswald directly to their destination. It is also possible to reach the Cinema from any Projector by spinning the gear until an image of Mickey is displayed and then entering it.
The Usher is required to complete Fifer Pig's path of the side quest Creative Threedom.
Trivia[]
- The Usher appears as a Goat in the first game, but a Cow in the second. This is the exact opposite of Jack Kelly, who appears as a Cow in the first game and a Goat in the second. Seeing as they both live in Mean Street North, their templates were likely switched on accident while designing Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.
- Epic Mickey: Rebrushed also did a similar mistake by turning the Usher into a Cow again.
- Also in Epic Mickey 2, The Usher pin uses his design from the first game.
