Tortooga is the first level of Pirates of the Wasteland and is based on the pirate town of the same name (Tortuga) in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in the Disney Parks, and its film series. The area is a coastal town on the shore of the Thinner Ocean.

Gameplay[]

First Visit[]

Tortooga

Tortooga

Upon arriving, Mickey and Gus meet Sherman, who tells them to locate Gentleman Starkey if they want to find Captain Hook. Beluga Billy promises to help if they get his belongings back. When Mickey finds the bag, it's filled with rocks. Obviously, the real treasure's been stolen, so Mickey goes back to Starkey who tells him that he must find the pirate who stole it inside the Tortooga Jail to ask of its location. Before Mickey leaves, he is given a Watch Sketch, which is followed by the Cutscene: Watch Sketch Training. The player will have to find keys to open the jail cell(s) and free the prisoner(s); each prisoner will tell you different secrets upon their releases. Scallywag Gabe will tell Mickey that if he lights all the lamps around Tortooga something will happen. If Mickey does so, several platforms rise from the Thinner sea. There is a treasure chest at the last platform, containing a Bronze Pin. Cutpurse Tycho will tell Mickey that if he uses his Spin Move at the well, something will happen. The platform on top of the well will be lowered, and at the bottom there is a treasure chest containing a silver pin. Ruffian Branderson will tell you where he hid Beluga Billy's treasure and open the gate to the room where it is guarded by Spatters. Mickey will have to use a Watch Sketch in order to spin all the gears in the room in time to open the secret door revealing Billy's belongings. After returning them to Beluga Billy, the Projector Screen to the Jungle will be opened.

Second Visit[]

After making it through the jungle, Mickey and Gus return to Tortooga. If Mickey completed Starkey's quest Hostiles in the Jungle, then there will be no enemies in the area, and the Tortooga Jail prisoners will be walking about, securing the area and leaving it free of Beetleworx. Ruffian Branderson will reward the player with a TV Sketch, Cutpurse Tycho will reward a Watch Sketch, and Scallywag Gabe will refill Mickey's Thinner. Mickey can then speak to Beluga Billy and Gentleman Starkey, and will receive the "Pirate Hero" pin, and will be granted access to Pirate Voyage.

If Mickey did not complete the Hostiles in the Jungle quest, Beetleworx Pirates will be walking along the docks, with Spatters guarding the door to Pirate Voyage. Beluga Billy will be hiding on the roof of the Governor's Mansion and will begrudgingly open the door to the next area.

Whichever circumstance Mickey enters into, Animatronic Daisy's part will be stored in a blue treasure chest near the Projector to Ventureland.

Enemies[]

Trivia[]

  • The name is might be a play on both Tortuga and toon, as it replaces the U with two letter O's
  • If Mickey completed the Hostiles in the Jungle quest, the pirate prisoners will all be free regardless of if he left them incarcerated.
  • On the second visit, Mickey can talk to Branderson and Tycho continuously to keep receiving TV and Watch Sketches. The maximum for each is 60, however. This is best used for second playthroughs to stock up on sketches for later sections.
  • Tortooga, along with the Mad Doctor's Lab, Mt. Osmore Caverns, Tomorrow Square, and Space Voyage, is one of the only Action World levels that can be revisited.
  • By taking yourself out of bounds, you are able to activate a line of dialogue from Gus saying "Dead men tell no tales", a reference to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, before saying "Work as promised, now let's head through".
  • If Mickey doesn't beat Hostiles in the Jungle, than this will be the first time in the game where Mickey encounters the tougher red-eye Blotlings. If he didn't than he will encounter them in Pirate Voyage.
