Utilidor III is a location within Dark Beauty Castle. It is a winding corridor with several doorways leading to the Courtyard. It is the first place Mickey uses the Paintbrush in Epic Mickey.

Mickey using the Brush in Utilidor III

Mickey spraying Paint from the Brush for the first time.

While heading into the Utilidor, Mickey tells Gus that he has to get back home and was brought to the castle by an ink monster. Gus explains that it was the "Shadow Blot", a thing made of Paint and Thinner. Mickey then pulls out the Brush and mentions that the Blot seemed scared of it. To the mouse's amazement, the Brush suddenly sprays a green substance at a Toon wall, causing it to erase. Gus explains that it's Thinner, a substance that can erase anything made of paint. Mickey then curiously sees what else the Brush can do and shoots a blue substance at the same wall. Gus explains that this substance is called Paint, and can restore anything dissolved by Thinner. Both then notice droplets flaking off of Mickey's arms and ears, which Gus assumes to be a product of soaking up some of the Blot. Mickey assures the Gremlin that he still feels like himself and decides to continue practicing using the Brush in the Utilidor. Gus explains at the end of the corridor is the Courtyard that will take them out of Dark Beauty Castle.

Map of Utilidor III

Utilidor III is a narrow, yet winding corridor that slowly descends to the Courtyard. Sets of armor and barrels line the walls of the corridor. Within the Utilidor itself are two doorways. The first door is one connected to three gears, while the second has a Toon frame and is surrounded by Thinner. At the end of the corridor is the doorway leading to the Castle Entrance.

Gameplay[]

The doorframe found in Utilidor III.

Before gameplay starts, Gus explains to press or hold the "Z" Button to use Thinner and to press or hold the "B" Button to use Paint. After this, Mickey walks through the corridor until he is stopped by a closed door. If Mickey aims the Brush at the erased gear and paints it in, then the door will unlock and he will be able to proceed. Right after this will be another locked door surrounded by a Toon frame. Here Mickey can thin out the frame, causing the whole door to fall over the Thinner and act as a bridge. The final obstacle in the Utilidor takes the form of large debris blocking the way to the Courtyard. If Mickey thins out the Toon floor under the debris, then it will completely sink into the thinner and allow Mickey to exit the corridor.

Tips[]

  • All the suits of armor and barrels will grant Mickey either paint or thinner.
  • If Mickey is far enough from the gear when he paints it in, some of Gus' dialogue can be skipped. The same goes with thinning out the door frame and the floor under the debris.
  • After getting rid of the debris, it's recommended to paint back in the floor as to not accidentally fall into the Thinner.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only 3D level in the first game to not include any Pins or Extra Content.
  • Oddly, there is no Utilidor 1 or 2 in this game.
  • In Epic Mickey: The Graphic Novel, Gus tells Mickey that wielding the Brush in his right hand generates Paint, while wielding in the left generates Thinner. This is a reference to the Wii Remote (which is generally meant to be held in the right hand) housing the button for Paint, and the Nunchuk (which is generally meant to be held in the left hand) housing the button for Thinner.
